STED: Path to Live

Background

STED provides a compliance platform that helps companies adopt the policies, processes and best practices they need to become secure, compliant and operationally mature. Its product generates the policies and procedures a business requires and gives it the tools to fulfil them across a range of recognised standards and frameworks, giving its customers the assurance and audit-readiness their own obligations demand.

Challenge

STED's highly successful beta release was built for go to martket speed and iteration agility. This had let the team move quickly in the early stages, but it created a ceiling as the business looked to grow.

Two issues stood out. First, the platform couldn't scale to meet demand which the low-code architecture wasn't built for. Second, and more critically for a compliance business, STED did not have sufficient control over its own infrastructure. Low-code platforms functions as a black box, and a black box cannot be certified against the regulatory standards STED's own service depends on.

With AWS grant funding available, STED wanted to establish whether a move to AWS could give it the control and scalability its next phase of growth required.

Solution

Cloudscaler ran an initial assessment to define the scope of the migration and produce a delivery blueprint, which was signed off before build began.

Rather than defaulting to a full enterprise-grade build, complete with the full suite of central services, Cloudscaler right-sized the delivery to what STED actually needed at this stage: a production-ready AWS environment, hardened and fit for purpose, without the overhead of enterprise tooling STED wasn't yet using at its current client volume.

From assessment through to delivery of a hardened production environment, the engagement was completed in 13 days.

·       Full infrastructure control. STED moved off a black-box low-code platform onto AWS infrastructure it can govern directly.

·       A certifiable platform. With visibility and control over the underlying infrastructure, STED is now positioned to meet the regulatory and industry certifications its compliance service depends on, and are using their own platform to achieve them.

·       Scalability: the new environment is built to support a growing client base, with heavy use of integrated AI functionality and MCP, removing the constraint that had capped STED's growth.

·       A right-sized build, not an over-built one. STED got a production-ready environment matched to its current scale, avoiding the cost and complexity of enterprise-grade tooling it didn't yet need.

Cloudscaler didn't just migrate STED's platform, it helped STED reframe what “ready” meant for a business at its stage. Separating the assessment phase from delivery gave STED a clear, signed-off blueprint before any build work started, and delivering to production-ready (rather than full enterprise-grade) meant STED got a platform matched to where the business is now, with room to scale into enterprise-grade capability as and when its client base grows.
